A violent clash in an Edo State community has left one person dead and several houses destroyed following a disagreement that escalated into a deadly attack.
According to reports, the incident began when a group of young men who had gathered for a social event started dancing. An argument reportedly broke out among some of them, leading to a confrontation.
During the altercation, one of the individuals involved allegedly went to retrieve a cutlass and attacked another person who was not directly connected to the dispute. The victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
Speaking on the incident, a community leader said the victim’s family members carried out reprisal attacks after learning of his death, setting several houses ablaze.
“The families of the deceased carried out reprisal attacks and burnt houses. No quarrel warranted the use of a cutlass. Our elders have since intervened and calmed the situation. I plan to visit the community as quickly as possible,” the source said.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
