The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their recent achievements in strengthening Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and improving service delivery across the sector.
In a statement made available to the media, Tegbe praised TCN for the successful energisation of a 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja. He said the development would significantly boost transmission capacity across the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister also applauded the swift collaboration between TCN and AEDC in responding to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in Abuja last Friday, which temporarily disrupted power supply in parts of the city.
According to him, both agencies mobilised technical teams and restored electricity within 24 hours, describing the effort as a strong example of effective inter-agency coordination and responsive service delivery.
Tegbe further commended the NDPHC under the leadership of its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for the successful revival of the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State. The plant, which had been dormant since 2023, is expected to dispatch up to 375 megawatts to the national grid, thereby improving power supply in the South-East and enhancing overall grid stability.
He described the development as a significant milestone under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), noting that it reflects ongoing efforts to maximise Nigeria’s power assets.
The Minister assured stakeholders across the power sector that productivity and excellence would continue to be recognised and rewarded under his leadership.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and called on all sector players to remain focused, innovative, and committed to delivering reliable electricity to homes, businesses, and industries across the country.
