A 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, has been arrested by the police after a reckless high-speed chase in Benin City, Edo State, which left three police officers injured.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the incident on Friday via his X handle after a video of the arrest circulated online. The suspect was reportedly driving a heavily tinted vehicle without number plates when he ignored police officers and sped off recklessly.
According to Hundeyin, Okon repeatedly drove past the officers at high speed, nearly hitting one of them before deliberately returning and knocking down three officers. Two of the injured officers have since been discharged, while one remains hospitalised.
The suspect also damaged several vehicles before he was eventually intercepted and arrested. A search of his car reportedly uncovered substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Hundeyin condemned the suspect’s actions, noting that the offences include reckless driving, assault on officers, and possession of suspected illicit substances.
