Some irate residents of Sokupkpan community in Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, have reportedly lynched the community’s Chief Imam, Abdulahi Audu, over his alleged involvement in the death of a resident, Ibrahim Gana.
According to multiple sources, Gana had repeatedly accused the Chief Imam of being responsible for his deteriorating health, claiming the cleric was attacking him in his dreams. As Gana’s health worsened, suspicion and tension spread throughout the community, with many believing the Chief Imam was behind his sickness.
The situation escalated into mob violence on Wednesday, resulting in the brutal killing of the Chief Imam. The police have arrested three suspects, identified as Mohammed Shaba, Mamudu Gana, and Ndakpotun Issa, who are believed to have led the mob attack ¹.
The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The remains of the slain Chief Imam were buried according to Islamic rites on Wednesday evening, amid tears and tension in the community.
