Egbin Power Plc has graduated the first cohort of participants in its Tech Empowerment Programme, reaffirming its commitment to equipping youths in its host communities with in-demand digital skills for improved employability, entrepreneurship and economic growth.
At the graduation ceremony held at the Bright Gyimah Innovation Centre, Powerfields Schools, Egbin Power, Ikorodu, 24 participants were honoured after successfully completing the six-month intensive training programme.
The Tech Empowerment Programme is part of the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) initiative aimed at providing young people from Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan communities with digital skills that can enhance their career prospects and create new economic opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, Kola Adesina, MFR, commended the graduands for their resilience and dedication, describing their achievement as a significant step towards building digitally empowered communities.
He urged the graduates to remain curious, embrace continuous learning and contribute to improving existing technologies.
“The world is evolving rapidly, and digital skills are at the heart of that transformation. I encourage you to train your minds, commit to continuous improvement, and use the knowledge you have acquired to create value—not just for yourselves, but for your communities and the world at large,” Adesina said.
He also encouraged them to maximise opportunities, share their knowledge and remain committed to making meaningful contributions to society.
The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development beyond electricity generation.
“At Egbin Power, we believe that empowering young people is one of the most impactful ways to drive sustainable development. We are confident that these graduands will apply the skills acquired to make a lasting impact across the digital landscape,” he said.
Bounour urged the beneficiaries to leverage their knowledge to develop innovative solutions that would accelerate socio-economic development.
“Let your knowledge, creativity and determination contribute to building a stronger, more innovative and prosperous Nigeria. You are ambassadors of possibility, proof that talent, when nurtured, becomes a catalyst for transformation,” he added.
The six-month programme offered structured training in ICT fundamentals, graphic design, full-stack web development, digital marketing, cybersecurity and data analytics.
Participants also received practical instruction in workplace skills such as collaboration, problem-solving and time management.
The graduation ceremony attracted Egbin Power’s top management, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from the Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan communities.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Dina Anjolaoluwa, who emerged as the Overall Best Graduand and Most Outstanding Female Participant, described the programme as life-changing.
“This programme has been life-changing for us. Beyond the technical skills, we have gained confidence, discipline and a new outlook on what is possible. We are deeply grateful to Egbin Power for investing in our future, and we are committed to using these skills to create solutions, positively impact our communities and inspire others to dream bigger,” she said.
Several other participants received awards in various categories in recognition of their outstanding performance and contributions during the training.
Egbin Power reaffirmed its commitment to expanding initiatives that promote digital inclusion, youth development and sustainable economic growth, noting that the Tech Empowerment Programme reflects its continued investment in people, skills and community development.
