By Peace Udugba:
The Guardian Newspaper has named Mr James Ukachukwu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BOCA Energy Resources Limited, BOCA Integrated Services Limited and Seispace Geosciences Limited, among 66 inspiring and award-winning Nigerian business leaders in a special showcase marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The recognition was communicated in an official letter dated October 14, 2026, as part of the newspaper’s Nigeria @ 66: Celebrating Sixty-Six Most Inspiring and Award-Winning Business Leaders initiative.
The development was announced by Alfred Abiodun, Head of Media and Publicity for the BOCA Group.
According to the letter signed by Taiwo Ricketts, Head of Adverts and Special Projects at The Guardian, the initiative is designed to celebrate Nigerian business leaders whose achievements and contributions to the private sector deserve greater public recognition.
The Guardian highlights outstanding Nigerian leadership
In the correspondence, Ricketts explained that the initiative was inspired by the need to draw attention to the achievements of exemplary Nigerian business leaders, many of whom, according to the newspaper, do not receive adequate recognition locally and internationally.
The newspaper noted that the actions of a few individuals sometimes create negative perceptions that overshadow the contributions of Nigerians who have demonstrated integrity, character and outstanding achievements in their respective fields.
The special showcase is therefore intended to highlight positive examples of leadership, entrepreneurship and professional accomplishment while providing younger Nigerians with inspiring examples of success.
Ukachukwu’s leadership in the energy sector
Ukachukwu heads three companies: BOCA Energy Resources Limited, BOCA Integrated Services Limited and Seispace Geosciences Limited, with business interests spanning the energy industry and related technical services.
BOCA Energy Resources Limited is an indigenous Nigerian company providing engineering, procurement, construction and project management solutions across the oil, gas and energy sectors.
Its services include engineering and procurement, construction and fabrication, pipeline and flowline installation, specialised oilfield services, supply-chain solutions, as well as geotechnical and geophysical services.
The company identifies innovation, safety, quality, integrity and sustainability as key principles guiding its operations.
His inclusion in The Guardian’s list brings attention to the role of indigenous businesses and their leadership in strengthening local capacity and supporting Nigeria’s industrial and energy-sector development.
BOCA Group strengthens industry presence
BOCA Energy Resources Limited has continued to participate in professional engagements within Nigeria’s energy industry.
In 2026, the company was reported as a sponsor of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists’ 44th Annual International Conference and Exhibition, scheduled for November 8–12 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.
The conference is expected to focus on exploration, local capabilities and adaptive technology.
In another development, BOCA Energy and BOCA IT Systems Limited received recognition during the 2026 Lagos State Council Correspondents’ Chapel Press Week, according to published media reports.
Ukachukwu was also named Energy Man of the Year at the Momentous Magazine Personality Awards (MOPA) 2026, with the recognition reported by Standard Times NG in October.
These developments add to the businessman’s growing public profile and his involvement in professional and industry engagements.
Private-sector leadership and national development
The recognition comes amid increasing attention to the role of private enterprises in Nigeria’s economic development, particularly in areas such as investment, industrialisation, employment generation and economic diversification.
Businesses operating across the energy, manufacturing, technology, agriculture and financial sectors contribute to economic growth through service delivery, local capacity development, job creation and investment.
Effective business leadership also requires strategic planning, operational discipline, workforce development and the ability to respond to changing economic and market conditions.
The Guardian’s initiative seeks to bring greater visibility to individuals whose professional journeys and business activities provide positive examples of enterprise and leadership.
BOCA Group reacts to recognition
Speaking on the development, Abiodun described the recognition as an important milestone for the BOCA Group and its chairman.
He said the acknowledgement by The Guardian provided an opportunity to highlight the contributions of indigenous business leaders and companies operating in Nigeria.
Abiodun also stressed the importance of communicating positive stories about Nigerian enterprise, leadership and professional achievements, particularly to younger generations.
The Group expressed appreciation to The Guardian for the recognition and for creating a platform to celebrate individuals contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s private sector.
For the BOCA Group, the recognition also reflects the collective efforts of its management, employees, technical professionals, business partners, clients and other stakeholders.
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the inclusion of Ukachukwu in the special showcase provides another opportunity to highlight the role of indigenous entrepreneurs and private-sector organisations in building local capacity and contributing to national development.
