Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has ordered the dismissal and prosecution of staff members of the General Hospital, Umaisha, allegedly involved in the sale of medical equipment donated to the facility.
The governor gave the directive on Thursday while reacting to allegations that equipment donated to the hospital, including orthopaedic mattresses, ceiling fans and standing fans, had been sold.
As earlier reported by The Daily Torch Media (TDTM), a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, had accused the hospital management of selling the donated items.
The lawmaker said he donated the medical equipment to the hospital to improve healthcare services and provide relief for patients.
Reacting to the allegation, Governor Sule expressed displeasure over the reported disappearance and alleged sale of the items, describing the development as inhuman.
He directed the Commissioner for Health to investigate the matter and take decisive action against any staff found culpable.
Sule said: “I have already asked the Commissioner for Health to investigate, to dismiss and fire them, and after that, to prosecute them.”
The governor’s directive comes amid growing concerns over the management of donated medical equipment and the need to ensure that such items are used for the intended purpose.
