Finland court has sentenced pro-Biafra activist Simon Ekpa to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offenses. The Päijät-Häme District Court determined that between August 2021 and November 2024, Ekpa used his social media platforms to incite violence in southeastern Nigeria, including supporting a terrorist organization and encouraging acts of terrorism.
Prosecutors alleged that Ekpa, from his residence in Lahti, Finland, coordinated the supply of weapons, explosives, and ammunition to separatist groups in Nigeria. They also accused him of issuing directives on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that encouraged attacks in the region.
In addition to the terrorism convictions, the court found Ekpa guilty of aggravated tax fraud. The offenses were prosecuted under Finnish jurisdiction because they were committed while Ekpa was residing in Lahti.
Ekpa has denied all charges. The court’s ruling is not final, as he is entitled to appeal the judgment to a higher court.
