The Senate has stated that embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, cannot resume duties yet.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate clarified that her six-month suspension remains valid, pending the outcome of an appeal she filed against the Red Chamber.
Although Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had formally notified the Senate of her intention to resume, the letter noted that her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, is still in effect and the matter remains sub judice.
“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.
The Senate stressed that any review of her suspension will only take place after the Court of Appeal delivers its judgment.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following allegations of insubordination, particularly over her refusal to comply with a seating reassignment during plenary.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, had earlier indicated she would return to the Senate later this month, believing her suspension had lapsed. However, the Senate insists it will await the court’s final decision.
