Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged the state government’s full support for the successful hosting of the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards scheduled to hold in Lagos on December 7.
The governor gave the assurance on Sunday while receiving a CAF delegation led by the Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly, Dr Christian Emeruwa, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
Sanwo-Olu said the state government would give priority attention to critical arrangements, including security, logistics, branding and venue access, to ensure a successful event.
He described Lagos as one of Africa’s leading commercial, cultural, entertainment and technology hubs, noting that its diverse population, youthful energy and economic importance made it suitable for hosting major international events.
The governor added that Lagos was committed to providing a positive experience for CAF officials, football stakeholders and international visitors attending the ceremony.
According to him, hosting the prestigious awards would offer the state an opportunity to showcase its hospitality, organisational capacity and readiness to accommodate major international engagements

He described the CAF Awards as one of the continent’s major annual football events, recognising outstanding players, officials and national teams for their achievements during the year under review.
Emeruwa noted that the December 7 ceremony was expected to attract prominent figures in African and international football, including representatives of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other international guests.
He also solicited the support of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to facilitate publicity and branding across the state ahead of the event.
The CAF project lead further requested that the Lagos State Government coordinate security operations in collaboration with CAF’s security team to ensure adequate protection for participants and guests.
The planned hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards is expected to bring together leading figures in African football and provide Lagos with an opportunity to strengthen its profile as a destination for major international sporting events.
