Rite Foods Limited has donated 600 protective coveralls and waste management tools to workers of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), as the company intensifies its push for recycling and zero waste to landfill by 2030.
The donation was made on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the OGWAMA headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of activities marking World Cleanup Day 2026, themed “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”
The intervention is aimed at supporting waste management workers who play a key role in keeping communities clean while strengthening efforts to recover recyclable materials and reduce waste going to landfills.
Speaking at the presentation, Rite Foods’ Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Ekuma Eze, said the initiative was designed to recognise the contribution of waste management workers and provide them with equipment to perform their duties more effectively.
“We recognise the important work that waste management workers do every day to keep our communities clean. Their contribution is critical, yet it often goes unrecognised,” Eze said.
How Rite Foods Is Turning Waste Into Useful Products
Eze said the donation also demonstrates Rite Foods’ approach to environmental sustainability, particularly its effort to convert materials regarded as waste into useful products.
He disclosed that about 30 per cent of the materials used to produce the donated coveralls came from recyclable waste generated from the company’s sausage and beverage packaging.
According to him, materials that could have ended up in drains or landfills were instead recovered and transformed into useful products.
“This is a practical demonstration that what we call waste can become a resource when properly recovered and recycled,” he said.
The company said the initiative forms part of its broader sustainability programmes, including Riteonthebeach, which focuses on waste collection and recycling across Lagos and shoreline communities.
Rite Foods Targets Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030
Eze also disclosed that Rite Foods is working towards an ambitious zero-waste-to-landfill target by 2030.
“We believe that by 2030, we should have achieved zero waste to landfill, meaning that the waste we generate from our operations will not end up in landfills, but will be recycled into other useful products,” he said.
The company said environmental sustainability remains a key part of its business strategy, particularly in Ogun State, where it operates a manufacturing facility equipped with modern infrastructure and low-emission technology.
OGWAMA Commends Rite Foods
The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Farouk Akintunde Adeniyi, commended Rite Foods for the donation and its continued support for environmental cleanliness in the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Environment, Dr Kafayat Lawal, also praised the company for its partnership with OGWAMA and support for waste management workers.
Lawal said the collaboration had contributed to strengthening the capacity of waste management workers to carry out their responsibilities.
From Recycled Waste to School Bags
Rite Foods said the latest initiative builds on previous sustainability interventions.
In 2025, the company donated school bags made from recycled waste materials to children in schools across Lagos and Ogun states as part of its Children’s Day activities.
The company said such initiatives demonstrate how recovered waste can be converted into products with social value.
Rite Foods Expands Brand Portfolio
The sustainability initiative comes shortly after Rite Foods received two honours at the 2026 EDGE Awards.
Its Managing Director, Seleem Adegunwa, was named Outstanding FMCG Brand Entrepreneur of the Year, while Rite Foods received the award for Outstanding FMCG Corporate Brand of the Year.
The company has also expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of LIDA Malt, joining brands including Bigi Carbonated Soft Drinks, Bigi Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink, Fearless Energy Drink, Rite Spicy Beef Sausage, Bigi Beef Sausage and Bigi Flex Sausage.
For Ogun residents and the wider waste-management sector, the latest intervention places greater attention on an issue that affects both public health and the environment: how waste can be collected, recovered and transformed into economic and social value.
