The Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Rivers State, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to delivering world-class education, following commendation from a visiting delegation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) led by Dr. Charles Ariye.
Professor Al-Akaidi expressed gratitude to the PAP delegation for their visit and reiterated the university’s dedication to upholding the founding vision of its late founder, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.
He emphasized the institution’s ongoing commitment to providing innovative and transformative education, supported by the University’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Professor Fabian Ajogwu (SAN), and the strategic oversight of the Governing Council, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Hon. Justice Amina Augie, JSC (Rtd.), CFR.
Our goal is to ensure our students stand out among their peers, both locally and globally,” the Vice-Chancellor stated. He emphasized the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and cutting-edge research across all disciplines.
Dr. Charles Ariye, who was visibly impressed by the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, commended the proprietors and management for creating an academic environment that rivals top global institutions.
With these world-class facilities, there is no reason for Nigerian students to seek education abroad,” Dr. Ariye remarked. He described Wigwe University as a “national blessing,” especially at a time when demand for high-quality tertiary education is rapidly increasing.
Mr. Kenneth Odoko, Rivers State Manager of the Amnesty Programme, also praised the university’s role in nurturing future leaders. He noted the growing trend of parents relying on schools to shape the foundational development of their children and commended the institution for rising to that challenge.
The visit concluded with a tour of the campus, where the delegation witnessed firsthand the university’s advanced infrastructure and the faculty’s dedication to mentoring undergraduates—fondly referred to as the ‘Fearless Team.’
Wigwe University continues to cement its reputation as a premier academic institution, bridging gaps in Nigeria’s higher education sector and helping retain talent within the country.
