President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc following Tuesday’s fire outbreak at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The message was conveyed in a statement signed on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, “President Tinubu extends his condolences to the management and staff of Afriland Properties Limited, the FIRS, United Capital, UBA, and particularly to those who lost loved ones in the inferno, as well as the injured currently receiving medical attention.
“The President commends emergency responders — including the Federal Fire Service, first aiders, medical personnel, and members of the public — for their swift intervention and sense of duty during the evacuation.”
President Tinubu also called for greater caution, emergency preparedness, and regular training to prevent future tragedies. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
As of the latest reports, seven people have been confirmed dead in the aftermath of the fire, including four FIRS staff members who worked on the sixth and seventh floors of the building.
