In a strategic move to enhance revenue generation and promote legitimate trade, the Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Oyo/Osun Area Command, DC Wale Moses Adewole, led a delegation on Thursday, 5 March 2026, to British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) and the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo.
During the visit to BATN, the delegation was warmly received by the company’s Director of Operations, Mr. Hasnain Ishtiaq. DC Adewole expressed appreciation for the reception and commended BATN for its significant contribution to national revenue through excise duties and adherence to customs regulations. He emphasized that the company remains a key partner in promoting lawful trade and encouraged continued collaboration to ensure effective revenue collection in line with the Nigeria Customs Service’s statutory mandate.
Mr. Ishtiaq acknowledged the visit and praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its dedication to facilitating legitimate trade, safeguarding national borders, and generating revenue. He assured the Customs leadership of BATN’s ongoing commitment to compliance and support for Nigeria’s economic development.
In a parallel engagement, DC Adewole paid a courtesy visit to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, recognizing the traditional institution as a custodian of Yoruba heritage. He highlighted the importance of community collaboration in combating smuggling and requested the monarch’s support in educating local communities on the economic dangers of illicit trade.
The Alaafin commended the Customs Service for its role in protecting the economy through revenue generation and anti-smuggling initiatives. He pledged the palace’s support in mobilizing the community to embrace lawful economic activities that contribute to national growth.
DC Adewole concluded by reaffirming the Oyo/Osun Area Command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with stakeholders, traditional institutions, and the public to drive revenue growth, facilitate legal trade, and support Nigeria’s economic prosperity.
