Police in Imo State have sealed a hotel and private mortuary after discovering more than 100 decomposed and mutilated bodies in what is suspected to be an illegal organ-harvesting operation.
The shocking discovery was made during a raid led by security operatives following a tip-off from concerned residents in the area. Authorities say the bodies, found in various stages of decomposition, bore signs of surgical mutilation, raising fears of a large-scale human trafficking and organ trade syndicate operating in the state.
Eyewitnesses reported a heavy security presence as police cordoned off the facility, which had reportedly been under suspicion for months. Some victims are believed to have been missing persons reported across the South-East.
State police spokesperson confirmed that several suspects have been arrested, while forensic teams and homicide detectives have been deployed to investigate the crime scene. The Inspector General of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation to unravel the network behind the operation.
Residents have called for swift justice, describing the incident as horrifying and deeply traumatic. Meanwhile, the state government has vowed to support the investigation and ensure all perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
