FG Will End Killings Across Nigeria, Says Bwala, Affirms Citizens’ Right to Self-Defence
Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to ending the wave of killings and insecurity affecting parts of the country.
Bwala made the statement during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while reacting to recent incidents of violent attacks and growing concerns over insecurity nationwide.
According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking decisive steps to strengthen security operations and protect lives and property across the country.
He stressed that while the government has the constitutional responsibility to safeguard citizens, Nigerians also have the right to defend themselves when faced with imminent danger, especially within their homes.
Bwala noted that citizens are not expected to remain helpless in the face of attacks by armed criminals, adding that self-defence is a natural and lawful reaction when lives are under threat.
“The government will end these killings. Nigerians also reserve the right to defend themselves against aggressors who invade their homes and threaten their lives,” he stated during the interview.
The presidential aide, however, emphasized that self-defence must be exercised within the bounds of the law and should not be mistaken for vigilantism or unlawful retaliation.
He further assured Nigerians that security agencies are being supported to intensify efforts against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements operating across the country.
His comments come amid renewed public debate over citizens’ right to bear arms and defend themselves following recurring attacks in several communities across Nigeria.
Security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and insurgency, have continued to raise concerns among citizens, with many calling for stronger government action to restore peace and security nationwide.
