A report released by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has indicted the pilot and co-pilot of an Air Peace aircraft for testing positive for hard drugs and alcohol following a runway excursion at Port Harcourt International Airport.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025, when the aircraft veered off the runway shortly after landing. Although there were no casualties, the event triggered an immediate investigation by the NSIB.
According to the Bureau’s preliminary findings, toxicology tests conducted on the flight crew confirmed the presence of substances indicating drug and alcohol use, raising major safety concerns over crew conduct and adherence to aviation protocols.
The NSIB noted that the investigation is still ongoing and said additional recommendations would be made to enhance regulatory oversight, enforce compliance, and safeguard aviation safety standards across the country.
