Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Evangelist Bunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, popularly known as “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.
Her death was announced on Tuesday evening via a brief statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel singer Ayo Melody, on behalf of her family.
The post, accompanied by a photo of the late singer and a video showing her remains, stated that she died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” the statement read.
Her passing comes after months of public concern and prayer appeals, following a serious leg ailment that left her bedridden.
In late 2025, a video surfaced from a service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, showing the singer seated with her leg outstretched while prayers were held for her. The presiding pastor disclosed that she had been experiencing continuous bleeding in her leg, sparking intense spiritual intercession.
The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread sympathy, prayer vigils, and messages of support from fans across Nigeria. However, the exact nature of her illness was never publicly revealed.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her musical journey at age 10 and eventually left her banking career to fully embrace gospel music. She rose to national prominence with the release of “Omije Ojumi,” a deeply emotional song that resonated with many.
Over the years, she released several other gospel tracks, earning her a place among Nigeria’s respected gospel voices. Her passing marks a significant loss to the gospel music community.
