The Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, has joined other international delegates at the inaugural assembly of the World Data Organization (WDO) held in Beijing, China.
The high-level forum brought together more than 500 participants, including senior government officials, representatives of multilateral institutions, and digital technology experts. The gathering marked a significant milestone in global efforts to strengthen cooperation on data governance and the expanding digital economy.
Tegbe, who was accompanied by the NCSP Head of International Relations, Ms. Judy Melifonwu, represented Nigeria at the event, underscoring the country’s growing strategic interest in global digital cooperation, particularly within its bilateral engagement with China.
His participation reflects ongoing efforts to position Nigeria as an active stakeholder in shaping international frameworks that govern data access, utilization, and security, while also advancing its digital transformation agenda.
The assembly featured a keynote address delivered on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping by Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who emphasized the importance of coordinated global action to harness the value of data while ensuring security, inclusiveness, and trust in the digital economy.
For Nigeria, participation at the high-level meeting presents opportunities to contribute to global discussions on data governance and cross-border data flows, deepen bilateral cooperation with China in digital infrastructure and innovation, unlock investment and knowledge exchange in the digital economy, and position Nigerian institutions and talent within emerging global data ecosystems.
The establishment of the World Data Organization signals a new phase in international collaboration on digital transformation, with Tegbe’s engagement highlighting the NCSP’s continued role in aligning Nigeria’s strategic interests with evolving global opportunities in data and technology.
