In a decisive step toward environmental responsibility and social impact, Nestlé Nigeria has trained 100 plastic waste workers across Lagos and Abuja under its new Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) initiative. The program is part of Nestlé’s broader mission to foster a waste-free future and elevate the lives of those who form the backbone of Nigeria’s recycling chain.
In partnership with NESREA, the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), and the Food Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), the training covered critical areas including occupational health and safety, fire prevention, proper handling of recyclables, and the use of protective equipment. Participants also received PPE kits to improve safety standards in their daily work.
Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé Nigeria’s Communications and Sustainability Lead, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment: “Plastic waste workers are key to achieving a circular economy. Through this program, we’re not only supporting their health and safety but also recognizing their value and empowering them to thrive in a sustainable system.
The initiative signals a growing focus on inclusive sustainability, where environmental progress goes hand-in-hand with social dignity and economic opportunity.
