The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged the Service’s full support for Nigeria’s ambition to build a $1 trillion economy.
Adeniyi made the commitment on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while delivering a keynote address at the New Nigeria Festival held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Conference Hall, Abuja.
He said the $1 trillion economic target was achievable if the plans and strategies developed by the government were effectively implemented and translated into measurable results.
According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service has moved beyond policy discussions to practical implementation through its ongoing modernisation reforms.
He cited initiatives including the deployment of B’Odogwu, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme and the Advance Ruling mechanism as measures aimed at facilitating legitimate trade, improving predictability in the business environment and strengthening revenue generation.
“Execution is nothing if it is not concrete. We have to move from ideas to action and ensure that whatever we plan translates into results. That is how we can begin to see the kind of transformation we are talking about,” Adeniyi said.
The Customs boss stressed that achieving the $1 trillion economy could not be the responsibility of government agencies alone.
He said the target required the collective commitment of government institutions, businesses and citizens, urging all stakeholders to take ownership of their respective responsibilities.
Adeniyi noted that the Customs Service, given its mandate in revenue collection, trade facilitation and border management, was strategically positioned to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
He therefore called for a shift from rhetoric to implementation, stressing that the country’s economic ambition could only be achieved when institutions and citizens translated plans into practical and measurable actions.
