The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, has urged staff of the commission to prioritise responsiveness, professionalism and accountability in delivering quality customer service to Nigerians.
Maida gave the charge during his address to mark the 2026 Customer Service Week at the NCC headquarters in Abuja on October 6.
Ms Olatokunboh Oyeleye, Director Cybersecurity and Internet Governance, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Engr. Babagana Digima, Director, Research and Development, NCC, and other Staff of the Commission at the Customer Service week Celebration, at NCC Annex office, Mbora, Abuja.
Speaking on the theme, “Going the Extra Mile,” the NCC chief executive said the annual celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of personnel who deliver excellent service and identify ways to improve engagement with stakeholders.
He stressed that customer service remained central to the commission’s mandate, noting that its policies, decisions and regulatory interventions should ultimately improve the experiences of consumers and support the development of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
According to him, going the extra mile requires staff to listen attentively, respond promptly to enquiries, communicate decisions clearly and take responsibility for resolving issues.
Maida explained that excellent customer service could also involve providing timely updates, guiding stakeholders through procedures and ensuring that complaints reached the appropriate departments for resolution.
He noted that expectations for efficient, transparent and responsive services had increased in the digital age, making it necessary for organisations to combine technology with sound judgment, empathy and professionalism.
The NCC boss emphasised that behind every enquiry or complaint was a person seeking information, a solution or reassurance that their concerns were being taken seriously.
Maida Commends NCC Staff
The commission’s chief executive commended NCC employees for their contributions to its daily operations, particularly those handling consumer complaints, engaging telecommunications licensees, supporting regulatory processes, managing communications and providing internal services.
He acknowledged that although much of their work might go unnoticed, its impact was felt throughout the commission and among stakeholders who depended on its services.
Maida also highlighted the importance of internal customer service, stressing that the quality of interactions among staff members directly influenced the standard of service delivered to the public.
He urged employees to improve collaboration across departments, share information promptly and respond effectively to colleagues to strengthen the commission’s overall performance.
NCC Boss Seeks Stakeholder Feedback
Maida acknowledged the contributions of telecommunications consumers, industry partners and other stakeholders, describing their feedback as essential to identifying areas of success and those requiring improvement.
He encouraged the commission to remain open to constructive criticism and to translate feedback into practical measures that would improve service delivery.
As part of the Customer Service Week activities, the NCC boss challenged employees to identify and address recurring problems in their daily operations.
He cited delayed responses, cumbersome procedures and repeated complaints as issues that required attention, urging staff to tackle their underlying causes rather than merely treating their symptoms.
According to him, addressing such challenges would help translate the commission’s commitment to service excellence into measurable results.
Maida further called on employees to treat every stakeholder with courtesy and respect, uphold the highest standards of integrity and take ownership of their responsibilities.
He said these everyday actions were essential to building trust in the commission and strengthening public confidence in its work.
The NCC chief executive thanked staff for their dedication and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of going the extra mile throughout the year, rather than limiting the commitment to the annual celebration.
He concluded by wishing staff and stakeholders a happy Customer Service Week 2026.
