The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, on Monday announced the launch of the NBA Smart Identity Card, describing it as a major step toward strengthening the professional identity of lawyers across the country.
Osigwe said the initiative was designed to address the growing need for secure identification, credibility, and easy verification within the legal profession.
According to him, the Smart ID Card will serve as a modern and verifiable credential for legal practitioners, helping to confirm their status while enhancing their professional image.
He noted that the card would simplify identification in courts, institutions, and official engagements, enabling lawyers to enjoy seamless recognition in professional settings.
The NBA president added that the card would be particularly useful for lawyers appearing in court, attending conferences, or engaging with clients and government agencies.
On eligibility, Osigwe said young lawyers within zero to seven years post-call would receive the Smart ID Card free of charge.
He explained that lawyers above the seven-year post-call category would be required to pay a processing fee to a designated service provider.
Osigwe urged interested members to apply through the official registration portal provided by the association.
He also advised applicants who submitted requests on April 22 and 23 to reconfirm their applications using the same link.
Describing the initiative as a move toward a more secure, efficient, and professionally distinguished Bar, Osigwe urged members to take full advantage of the opportunity.
