The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to public safety by intervening expeditiously in a potentially catastrophic incident at Iyana-Isolo inward Oshodi, Lagos. A petroleum-laden tanker overturned and caught fire, engulfing four adjoining trucks. Thanks to LASTMA’s prompt response, no human casualties were recorded.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the disaster was caused by egregious overspeeding, which led to the driver’s loss of control. LASTMA operatives, under the direct supervision of the Agency’s operational command, swiftly mobilized allied responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Nigeria Police Force, and Neighbourhood Safety Corps. These responders collectively subdued the inferno and prevented its escalation into a greater tragedy.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the prompt response of his team and cautioned operators of articulated vehicles and fuel tankers to adhere to statutory speed limitations. He emphasized that compliance with speed limits is crucial for preserving human life, protecting property, and sustaining collective safety across the State’s transportation corridors.
