JMG Limited has hosted engineering students from the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Chapter, on a factory visit designed to expose them to industrial operations and the practical application of engineering principles.
The visit, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, provided the students with an opportunity to observe how engineering knowledge is applied in an industrial environment, complementing their classroom learning with practical experience.
The engagement also featured contributions from Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at YABATECH, who previously worked with JMG. His experience in both academia and industry offered insights into the relationship between engineering education and professional practice.
Speaking on the importance of industrial exposure, Isiaq said the experience would help students understand the connection between theoretical knowledge and its practical application.
“Experiences like this help students better understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how engineering principles are applied in industry. Seeing these processes in practice can give them a clearer perspective on the skills and technical knowledge required in their chosen profession,” he said.
JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions across several sectors, including power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), solar energy and industrial applications.
Commenting on the engagement, Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG Limited, said the company recognised the importance of exposing young engineers to real-world applications of their academic training.
“At JMG, we recognise the importance of giving young engineers opportunities to see how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates into practical applications. Engagements like this help students gain a better understanding of the industry, the technologies involved and the role engineering plays in addressing everyday business and industrial needs,” Faniran said.
She added that stronger collaboration between industry and academic institutions would help prepare students for the demands of professional practice.
The factory visit enabled the students to relate aspects of their academic training to real-world engineering applications and gain a broader understanding of the technical requirements of industrial operations.
Such engagements can complement classroom instruction by allowing students to observe industrial processes, interact with professionals and appreciate how engineering solutions address practical challenges.
JMG’s engagement with the students underscores the importance of industry-academia collaboration in strengthening technical education and preparing aspiring engineers for careers in the industrial sector.
