A disturbing incident unfolded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday, involving a passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo. The passenger, a woman dressed in a white top and black pants, allegedly assaulted an air hostess during a heated argument on the plane. Witnesses reported that she slapped the hostess multiple times, prompting airport officials to intervene.
The passenger became violent with airport officials who tried to calm her down, throwing objects like slippers, a wig, and a handbag at them.
Five officials, including four men and a woman, were forced to physically restrain the passenger and carry her into a waiting bus to prevent further confrontations.
The incident caught the attention of Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Achimugu faulted the passenger’s actions, stating that the incident was a result of her failure to adhere to instructions.
He emphasized the importance of complying with crew directives, saying, “When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff/landing, simply comply. Passengers need to understand that they have responsibilities, not just rights.
NCAA has promised to address the incident and investigate further, with Achimugu stating that more details will become clearer soon. The incident highlights the need for passengers to respect aviation protocols and crew instructions to ensure safety and order in Nigerian airports.
