Oba Kehinde Falodun, the traditional ruler of Agamọ Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been killed by suspected bandits in a failed abduction attempt.
The attack occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the monarch’s palace.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said an investigation had commenced and security operatives were on the trail of the assailants.
According to him, the monarch was later found a few metres away from the palace with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside tactical teams from the command, promptly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits,” Jimoh said.
He added that operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, as well as local hunters and members of the Atuluse Security outfit, joined efforts to comb nearby bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.
Security surveillance has since been intensified across the community to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
“The public is assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice,” the police spokesman stated.
The killing comes weeks after suspected bandits attacked Ayede Community in the same local government area, abducting a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi, who was later released after a ransom was reportedly paid.
Days after that incident, Amotekun operatives arrested 12 suspects allegedly linked to banditry activities in the area.
