Egbin Power Plc has been named Electricity Generation Company (GenCo) of the Year by Energy Times, in recognition of its operational excellence and resilience within Nigeria’s power sector.
The award was presented at the Energy Times Awards held in Ikeja, Lagos, where key stakeholders across the energy, oil, and gas value chain gathered to celebrate innovation and performance in the industry.
The company said the recognition underscores its consistent commitment to delivering reliable electricity to the national grid despite structural challenges within the sector. It noted that performance in Nigeria’s power industry is measured by output and reliability rather than visibility.
“At Egbin Power, we have made a deliberate choice to be reliable, disciplined, and performance-driven. This recognition reflects the resilience of our people, the strength of our operations, and our unwavering commitment to powering Nigeria sustainably,” the company stated.
Egbin Power emphasised that sustainable electricity generation goes beyond producing megawatts, stressing the importance of an efficient value chain where generated power translates into real value and revenue recovery.
Speaking on the award, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mokhtar Bounour, dedicated the recognition to the workforce, praising their dedication and discipline.
“All the credit for this recognition goes to the team, whose commitment continues to deliver outstanding results,” he said, while also acknowledging the support of the company’s board in driving performance and governance alignment.
Bounour further highlighted the role of Sahara Group, Egbin Power’s parent company, in advancing innovation and sustainability.
He noted that the organisation remains focused on delivering value to stakeholders while contributing to national development.
“We are not just generating power; we are powering the future. Technology will remain at the heart of this transformation, while sustainability and affordability are our standard,” he added.
In addition, the Sahara Group Foundation was named Social Impact Company of the Year, recognising its contributions to sustainable development and socio-economic progress across Nigeria and Africa.
In its citation, Energy Times commended Egbin Power for improving its average hourly power generation in 2025, despite industry-wide constraints.
The organisers noted that the company maintained strong output through enhanced operational efficiency, proactive asset management, and a firm commitment to grid stability.
The recognition further reinforces Egbin Power’s strategic role in Nigeria’s electricity sector and its continued push for performance-driven growth.
