The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-West Geopolitical Zone and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven policing and stronger community partnerships during a strategic working visit to Ogun State.
The visit, undertaken on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was aimed at enhancing internal security, deepening community policing, improving operational effectiveness, and strengthening collaboration among security agencies and key stakeholders across the South-West.
DIG Fayoade was accompanied by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood. They were received at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, and members of the Command’s management team.
A major highlight of the visit was an interactive stakeholders’ forum held at the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Hall.
The meeting brought together representatives of traditional institutions, community and religious leaders, labour and transport unions, youth organisations, professional bodies, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, and TRACE.
Addressing participants, DIG Fayoade described security as a shared responsibility and stressed the need for sustained collaboration between government, traditional institutions, security agencies, and members of the public. He urged community leaders to provide timely and credible intelligence while encouraging Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to maintain regular engagement with their communities.
The DIG also held an interactive session with officers and personnel of the Ogun State Police Command, where he commended their professionalism, dedication, and operational achievements. He charged them to uphold discipline, integrity, accountability, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for corruption in the discharge of their duties.
During the visit, DIG Fayoade paid a courtesy call on the Ogun State Government, where he was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, representing Governor Dapo Abiodun. He conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector-General of Police and expressed appreciation for the state’s continued support for the Nigeria Police Force. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its partnership with the police in promoting peace and public safety.
The Deputy Inspector-General also visited the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, where he praised the traditional institution for its support of security initiatives. He emphasised the vital role of traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and community policing.
In his capacity as the DIG in charge of ICT, Fayoade concluded the visit with an engagement at the Police College of Information and Technology, Kobape, Abeokuta. He commended the institution for its contribution to building the technological capacity of police personnel and encouraged continuous innovation in advancing the Nigeria Police Force’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking at the end of the visit, CP Bode Ojajuni expressed appreciation to DIG Fayoade and AIG Moshood for their impactful engagements and strategic guidance. He assured them that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity, accountability, and respect for human rights while strengthening collaboration with stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven policing and called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and actionable information, noting that security remains a collective responsibility.
