Veteran Nigerian musician John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has revealed how he survived an assassination attempt three months after armed men invaded his home and killed one of his workers.
Showkey made the revelation during an interview with The Podcast Network, where he recounted the attack and how he narrowly escaped death.
According to the musician, he was driving when he noticed four men on motorcycles following him. He said he drove into a filling station to buy fuel, only to see the men park their motorcycles nearby.
Showkey said the gunmen opened fire on him while a fuel attendant was filling his vehicle with petrol.
He explained that several bullets hit his car, penetrating the seats and other parts of the vehicle.
Recounting the incident, Showkey said he pretended to be dead before using his car door to knock down one of the attackers who approached the vehicle.
In his words: “While the fuel attendant was putting fuel in my car, the next thing I heard was gunshots. They shot repeatedly at my car and bullets penetrated the seats and everywhere. I pretended to be dead, then I pushed my door open to knock down one of the shooters. I got out and punched him until he fell.”
The musician said the incident occurred three months after armed men had entered his residence and killed one of his workers.
