The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) hosted a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception in Abuja on June 3, 2026, bringing together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions, and senior government officials in a move aimed at strengthening international cooperation, trade relations, and institutional partnerships.
Held on the rooftop of the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, the event attracted top government and security officials, including the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management team, and other senior representatives from key agencies.
Speaking at the reception, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to the diplomatic community for its continued support in advancing bilateral relations and global trade cooperation with Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to providing the necessary support and services to enable diplomatic missions to operate effectively within the country.
Adeniyi noted that the NCS has continued to expand its international presence through structured collaboration with more than 20 customs administrations worldwide. According to him, these partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and operational cooperation designed to improve trade facilitation and border management.
The Customs boss stressed that sustained collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies is essential for enhancing border security, boosting revenue generation, and improving Nigeria’s economic competitiveness in an increasingly interconnected global trade environment.
He further highlighted the importance of continuous engagement, trust-building, and shared responsibility among international partners in addressing emerging challenges related to trade, security, and compliance management.
According to Adeniyi, initiatives such as the diplomatic reception provide a valuable platform for dialogue, relationship building, and the exploration of new areas of cooperation that can strengthen Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic framework.
The event concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in fostering stronger institutional relationships and creating an enabling environment for international collaboration.
