A fire outbreak occurred on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, prompting a swift emergency response from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
In a statement, FAAN confirmed that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service was immediately deployed to the affected terminal to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the airport.
The authority said firefighters and other emergency personnel were on the ground working to bring the situation under control while ensuring the safety of passengers, airport workers, and airport infrastructure.
FAAN disclosed that no fatalities or injuries had been recorded as of the time of its update, adding that the incident was being closely monitored by relevant officials.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the authority said.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been established, FAAN said emergency operations were ongoing and that a comprehensive assessment of the affected area would be carried out after the blaze was fully extinguished.
The authority assured the public that additional updates would be provided as emergency response efforts continue and investigations into the cause of the incident progress.
