Jos, Plateau State — Panic and outrage have gripped residents of Jos North following a deadly attack by gunmen on Sunday night, March 29, 2026, in the Angwa Rukuba community.
According to local reports, the attackers stormed the area—known for its large population of students and young residents—and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving several people dead, including students. While unofficial figures suggest that at least 10 persons were killed, authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties.
Eyewitness accounts described a scene of chaos and terror, as the gunmen, reportedly riding on motorcycles, shot sporadically at residents.
“They just rode past and started shooting,” a resident recounted, highlighting the suddenness and brutality of the нападение, which forced people to flee in different directions for safety.
The incident has sparked widespread anger both within the community and across social media, where unverified claims describing the attack as a targeted “Christian massacre” have been circulating. However, security agencies and government officials have not confirmed the nature or motive behind the attack.
In response to the violence and rising tension, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, effective from March 29 to April 1, 2026, in a bid to restore order and prevent further escalation.
Disturbing videos shared online showing graphic scenes, including lifeless bodies and bloodstains, have further heightened fear and anxiety among residents.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the attack and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security presence has since been reinforced in the area as efforts continue to stabilise the situation and prevent further violence.
