A former member of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress in Jigawa State, Alhaji Hon. Abba Anas Adamu Laushi, has been reportedly killed by bandits after being abducted along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.
Laushi was said to have been kidnapped last Friday alongside another person, who later escaped from the captors.
Sources disclosed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦75 million, which was reportedly paid by the family and associates in an effort to secure his release. However, despite the payment, the assailants allegedly killed the politician.
The late Laushi represented Birniwa, Guri, and Kirikasamma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011.
Family sources said his remains are being conveyed to Kano for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The incident has again raised concerns over the worsening insecurity and frequent attacks by bandits along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.
