The Joint Task Force has successfully repelled an attempted incursion by bandits into several communities in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. The gun battle, which began late Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday, affected Yankwada, Babanduhu, and surrounding villages.
Details of the Attack:
– Bandits, riding over 50 motorcycles, each carrying three persons armed with bazookas and other heavy weapons, raided the villages
– The attack was a revenge mission after losing nine of their members to military firepower last week
– The military responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle
– The bandits were dislodged, and no military or civilian casualties were reported, contrary to initial reports
– Maj. Zubair Babatunde, Kano Army Spokesperson, confirmed the incident
– The attack was repelled, and the military prevented casualties and significant damage to property
– The military remains on high alert to prevent further attacks and sustain peace across the state
Community Response:
– Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, confirmed the incident and commended the military for their timely intervention
– He called on the Federal Government to provide more arms and deploy additional personnel to complement the gallant officers on the ground
