FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has partnered with Google Pay to expand digital payment options for eligible cardholders, allowing them to make contactless payments using compatible devices at supported payment terminals.
The integration marks another step in the bank’s digital transformation drive, aimed at providing customers with secure, convenient and innovative payment solutions for everyday transactions.
Under the arrangement, eligible FirstBank cardholders can add their cards to Google Pay and use compatible devices to make contactless payments at supported terminals worldwide.
The service also offers customers a faster checkout experience while leveraging Google Pay’s built-in security features to help protect payment information.
The development comes amid growing adoption of digital payment technologies, as financial institutions continue to invest in solutions that simplify transactions and provide customers with greater flexibility in managing their finances.
Speaking on the partnership, Abednego Ugwueke, Group Head, e-Business and Retail Products at FirstBank, said the integration reflected the bank’s commitment to improving customer experience through technology.
“At FirstBank, we are constantly evolving our digital capabilities to deliver banking experiences that are simple, secure and aligned with the lifestyle of our customers.
“The integration of Google Pay is another significant step in our digital transformation journey, providing eligible cardholders with a seamless and globally accepted payment solution that enables them to make purchases with confidence wherever Google Pay is accepted.
“As Nigeria’s leading financial institution, we remain committed to bringing world-class innovations to our customers, connecting them to the best global payment technologies while ensuring the security, convenience and reliability they have come to expect from FirstBank,” Ugwueke said.
The Google Pay integration complements FirstBank’s existing digital banking channels and payment solutions, including LIT App, FirstMobile, FirstOnline and FirstDirect, as well as its range of payment cards.
The initiative also highlights the bank’s continued investment in technology-driven services designed to improve customer experience and advance financial inclusion.
By expanding access to digital wallet payments, FirstBank aims to give eligible customers more ways to pay for goods and services conveniently while supporting the broader transition towards a digitally enabled economy.
However, customers should confirm their card eligibility, device compatibility and applicable activation requirements before using the service.
