The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18, following intelligence about a planned cult-related gathering tagged “Kito Day.”
The event was reportedly expected to involve students from different secondary schools in the area.
According to the police, the operation followed intelligence received on October 22, 2026, prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Owode-Yewa to swiftly deploy detectives to the scene in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The operation led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of several items suspected to be connected to the planned activity.
Items recovered included one English axe, two knives, one short cutlass, one rubber toy gun and a school bag.
The police said the suspects and recovered items would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, on October 23, 2026, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The command’s swift response underscores the importance of intelligence gathering and collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups in preventing crime and maintaining peace in communities.
The police are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the planned gathering and determine the roles allegedly played by the suspects.
