The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially inaugurated the nationwide full digital birth and death registration exercise in Enugu State as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s civil registration system and improve the accuracy of demographic data.
Speaking during the inauguration in Enugu on Wednesday, the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State in the Commission, Chief Ejike Ezeh, said the digital registration initiative would enhance the efficiency, accessibility and credibility of birth and death records across the country.
The programme is expected to strengthen national identity management, improve planning and policy formulation, and ensure that every birth and death is captured in a secure digital database.
Present at the inauguration were the Head of Department, Human Resources and Management, Ms Esther Ezeh; Director of the NPC Enugu State Office, Ms Jane-Francess Ugwu; the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State in the Commission, Chief Ejike Ezeh; and the Head of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Enugu State Office, Ms Chinelo Ifedinkor.
The nationwide digital registration exercise forms part of the Commission’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving civil registration and vital statistics in Nigeria through the deployment of technology.
