The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering stronger collaboration among telecommunications regulators across Africa to accelerate digital transformation and improve connectivity on the continent.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, made the call during the Heads of Regulators Roundtable at the 7th Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26), held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The roundtable brought together telecommunications regulators, policymakers and industry stakeholders from across Africa to deliberate on strategies for strengthening regional cooperation, harmonising regulatory frameworks and promoting innovation in the telecommunications sector.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Maida stressed the importance of collaborative regulation in addressing emerging challenges and leveraging opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem. He noted that stronger partnerships among African regulators would help drive investment, improve broadband penetration and enhance access to affordable digital services.
Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, and the NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Barr. Rimini Makama.
The ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries is the highest decision-making body of the African Telecommunications Union, bringing together member states and industry leaders to shape policies and strategies for the development of information and communication technologies across Africa.
