The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disbursed N7.61 billion to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for the payment of pension benefits to 4,237 retired officers, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of its retirees.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this during a dialogue with retired Customs officers held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. He said the funds had already been released to the PFAs for onward payment into the beneficiaries’ individual accounts.
According to the breakdown presented at the meeting, Premium Pension has the highest number of beneficiaries with 2,268 retirees, followed by Access-ARM Pension Managers with 1,223, Leadway Pensions with 403, TrustFund Pensions with 156, FCMB Pensions with 144, Veritas Glanvills Pensions with 28, Norrenberger Pensions with 11, and Fidelity Pension Managers with four, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 4,237.
Adeniyi stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service must remain financially strong to meet its obligations to both serving and retired personnel, noting that the welfare of officers who devoted decades of service to the nation remains a priority.
He also encouraged retirees to maintain constructive engagement with the Service, saying the dialogue was organised to address concerns, improve mutual understanding, and reduce the spread of rumours and misinformation affecting relations between the Service and its retired personnel.
“I acknowledge the concerns and suggestions raised by our retirees. This engagement is aimed at fostering better understanding and ensuring that issues affecting our retired officers are addressed through proper channels,” Adeniyi said.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, DCG Tijjani Abe, alongside other members of the Customs Management Team, who assured the retirees that their concerns would be presented for consideration at the Service’s Board and Management meetings.
The retirees commended the Comptroller-General and the management for creating a platform for direct interaction and appealed for the dialogue to become a regular engagement to strengthen ties between serving officers and retired personnel.
The dialogue comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to enhance pension administration through a review of the statutory provisions governing pensions, including Section 15(4) of the Pension Reform Act 2014, in line with Section 173(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
