Leading cancer specialists from across Africa gathered in Nigeria’s capital for the Best of ASCO Africa 2026 conference, organised by the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) in collaboration with Project PINK BLUE, to discuss the latest advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Among the participants were Oncology Doctors from Kenya Teaching Hospital, Dr Andrew Odhiambo, Dr Manel Haji, and Dr Omar Ahmed, alongside Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon from Zambia Teaching Hospital, Dr Chihena Banda.
The conference brought together oncologists, surgeons, researchers, policymakers and healthcare professionals from across the continent to exchange knowledge, review the latest findings from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and explore strategies for improving access to quality cancer care in Africa.
Experts at the event emphasised the importance of collaboration, research, early detection, and capacity building to strengthen cancer care systems across African countries. The meeting also provided a platform for healthcare professionals to share experiences and promote partnerships aimed at reducing the growing burden of cancer on the continent.
Best of ASCO Africa 2026 reaffirmed the commitment of African cancer experts and stakeholders to advancing evidence-based oncology practice and improving patient outcomes through regional collaboration and continuous medical education
