Nigerian media personality, actor, and fashion influencer Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, popularly known as Denrele, has sparked reactions on social media after staging a symbolic ceremony in which he “married himself” as part of his 45th birthday celebration.
In a video shared online, Denrele announced that he was marrying the one person who had never abandoned him throughout his life’s journey — himself.
Explaining the symbolic gesture, the entertainer said the ceremony was a celebration of self-love, resilience, survival, and personal growth after decades of navigating challenges and triumphs.
According to him, he was honoring every version of himself that had fought through chaos, reinvention, controversy, heartbreak, and success to become the person he is today.
“Till death didn’t do us part, so I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he said.
Describing himself as both the bride and the groom, Denrele stated that he was celebrating the only person who had remained by his side through every stage of life.
“I, Denrele, am the bride and the groom. I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side — me,” he declared.
The media personality, who turned 45 on June 13, said the occasion marked not only his birthday but also a celebration of his personal journey and enduring belief in his own strength and individuality.
The unusual birthday tribute has since generated widespread reactions online, with many fans praising the gesture as a powerful statement of self-acceptance and personal fulfillment.
