Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant step toward sustainable healthcare delivery, JMG Solar, the renewable energy division of JMG Limited, has successfully installed and commissioned a state-of-the-art hybrid solar power system at St. Catherine Specialist Hospital in Wuse 2, Abuja.
Founded in 1999 in Port Harcourt, St. Catherine Specialist Hospitals Limited expanded its operations to Abuja in 2016 as part of its commitment to providing quality healthcare services to Nigerians and international patients.
The hospital has earned a reputation for excellence through its team of highly experienced medical professionals and support staff dedicated to delivering world-class healthcare and promoting medical tourism.
As part of its vision to maintain high standards of healthcare delivery, the hospital sought a reliable and efficient power solution to ensure uninterrupted operations, reduce energy costs, and support environmental sustainability initiatives.
To achieve these objectives, JMG Solar designed and deployed a hybrid solar energy system tailored to the hospital’s energy needs. The project has significantly improved energy reliability while reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
According to data from the hospital, diesel consumption has dropped from 2,000 litres per month to 1,000 litres monthly within four months of the system’s installation. This reduction has translated into savings of approximately ₦14 million on diesel purchases during the period.
The hospital has also recorded substantial reductions in its monthly energy expenditure. Electricity-related costs have fallen from about ₦7 million per month before the solar installation to approximately ₦5 million monthly after deployment, resulting in net savings of ₦2 million per month after lease payments, all achieved without any capital expenditure (CAPEX) by the hospital.
Following a comprehensive energy audit and load analysis, JMG Solar deployed a hybrid system comprising 92.8kWp of solar photovoltaic generation capacity, a 65kW hybrid inverter system, and 160.8kWh of lithium battery storage.
The installation features 160 Longi solar panels rated at 580W each, three 20kW Deye hybrid inverters, one 5kW inverter, and 30 Deye lithium batteries. Mounted on the hospital’s rooftop, the system is equipped with a smart monitoring platform that enables real-time performance tracking.
The solar solution is capable of generating approximately 11.13MWh of electricity monthly, translating to an estimated 133.63MWh annually. This capacity enables the hospital to meet virtually all its energy requirements through solar power and battery storage, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
In addition to improving power reliability, the project supports environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 53,091 kilograms annually.
Commenting on the project, JMG representative Chisom Okoye described the installation as a major milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
“The 65kW hybrid solar solution with 92.8kWp solar power and 160.8kWh lithium battery storage has been successfully installed and commissioned at the client’s facility. The system is fully operational and delivering reliable energy performance,” Okoye said.
