Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State have endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was reached during a strategic caucus meeting held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, where key stakeholders across the state converged to deliberate on the party’s future.
The meeting was led by Governor Dapo Abiodun and attended by prominent figures, including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel. Other aspirants present at the meeting included Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Isiaka, Tunde Lemo, and Isiak Akinlade.
Addressing journalists after the closed-door session, which lasted about two hours, Governor Abiodun announced the outcome, commending party members for their unity and cooperation.
“It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of everyone here, to congratulate Senator Adeola as our consensus and unanimously selected governorship candidate for the year 2027,” he said.
The governor attributed the development to what he described as a remarkable display of political maturity and sacrifice among party leaders.
“I am overjoyed at the level of maturity and political magnanimity displayed at this meeting. It reflects a spirit of ‘no victor, no vanquished,’ recognising that while one person emerges, others have made sacrifices,” Abiodun added.
He, however, cautioned party members against complacency, stressing that securing a candidate does not guarantee electoral victory.
“Having a candidate does not mean we have won the election. We must now begin the work required to secure victory in 2027,” he said.
In his response, Senator Adeola, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to sustain and build upon the developmental strides of previous administrations if elected governor.
The endorsement signals an early move by the APC in Ogun State to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 governorship election, as political activities gradually begin to gather momentum.
