A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that it plans to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position clear on Monday, stressing that the party remains committed to presenting its own presidential candidate.
The statement comes amid growing speculation about possible alliances ahead of the next election cycle. Speaking during an interview on Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, denied reports linking the PDP bloc to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate,” Mohammed said.
He appealed to Nigerians for patience as the party prepares to conduct its primaries, dismissing allegations that the PDP faction is aligned with the APC.
“All these rumours that we are supporting the APC or that we are an appendage of the APC will fade with time. They are aimed at discrediting the PDP or the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike,” he added.
Mohammed further emphasised that the party’s structure remains intact despite internal disagreements, maintaining that the PDP is still one of the strongest political platforms in the country. He also urged members and supporters to remain calm as preparations for the primaries continue.
