Anambra State, Nigeria – Governor Charles Soludo has raised concerns over the alarming disappearance of children, particularly young girls, in the state, linking the cases to ritualistic practices. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, the governor hghlighted that some traditional healers may be involved in these incidents.
Soludo explained that certain criminals are exploiting cultural beliefs to commit heinous acts. “Little girls are vanishing, especially because they are sought after for rituals that require a virgin,” he said, describing the situation as extremely worrying.
The governor noted that the demand for items used in rituals has contributed to a surge in reports of missing children across Anambra. He emphasized that his administration’s actions against some traditional healers, including individuals such as Akwa Okuko, are aimed at protecting vulnerable members of society rather than targeting legitimate practitioners.
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to investigate suspected cases thoroughly and ensure that anyone found guilty of these crimes is brought to justice.
Governor Soludo also urged communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities. He stressed that safeguarding children and restoring public trust in security remain top priorities for his government.
