As Muslims in Lagos and beyond prepare to celebrate Eid-El-Fitri, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations to the faithful, urging them to uphold the virtues of discipline, patience, and civic responsibility cultivated during Ramadan.
In a goodwill message, Bakare-Oki commended the Muslim community for their spiritual devotion, resilience, and moral integrity throughout the fasting period. He emphasized that these qualities should continue beyond Ramadan, especially in observing traffic regulations and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
The LASTMA boss reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws, warning that there will be zero tolerance for violations before, during, and after the festive season.
Motorists, commercial drivers, and all road users were urged to avoid reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading, and driving against traffic, among other unsafe practices.
“While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that puts lives at risk or disrupts traffic flow,” he said.
Bakare-Oki assured residents and visitors that LASTMA has implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan, deploying personnel to major highways, junctions, and areas expected to witness increased socio-religious activities to prevent congestion and respond swiftly to any traffic issues.
He added that LASTMA officials will maintain round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations, working closely with security and emergency agencies to ensure safety, minimize disruptions, and maintain order during the celebrations.
The General Manager called on Lagosians to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient, and follow road safety rules, noting that collective responsibility is key to a safe and efficient transport system.
“As we celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we urge all residents to prioritize safety, respect authority, and contribute to a peaceful and congestion-free environment,” he said.
LASTMA remains committed to delivering effective traffic management services, particularly during peak and festive periods, in line with its vision of a safer and more efficient transportation system in Lagos.
