The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed reports claiming the Federal Government ordered it to suspend enforcement of the ban on sachet alcohol.
The agency recently began enforcing the nationwide ban on the production and sale of alcohol in sachets and PET bottles. However, social media reports alleged that the Federal Government had directed NAFDAC to halt the exercise.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC described the claim as false and misleading, stating that it had received no such directive.
The agency stressed that it operates within its statutory mandate and in line with officially communicated government policies. It urged the public and stakeholders to disregard the report and rely only on verified information from its official channels.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and warned against spreading unverified information capable of causing confusion or economic uncertainty.
