A fatal collision involving two articulated trucks occurred on Wednesday at Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, claiming the life of a trailer driver and causing severe traffic disruption.
The crash, which involved a sand-laden trailer and another conveying granite, was reportedly triggered by a struggle for right of way. The impact left the sand truck driver trapped in the wreckage.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly rescued the victim and handed him over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), but he was later pronounced dead at the General Hospital, Ikeja. The second driver survived unhurt.
A separate incident nearby, where another trailer loaded with flour overturned, further worsened congestion, blocking a large portion of the carriageway. LASTMA, with support from police operatives, implemented traffic diversions to ease movement.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, described the incident as avoidable, blaming impatience and disregard for traffic rules. He condoled with the family of the deceased and urged motorists, especially truck drivers, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
