The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) and OrderPaper Nigeria have renewed pressure on the National Assembly to amend the outdated Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, citing glaring loopholes undermining petroleum sector governance.
At a stakeholders’ workshop in Abuja, FRC Chairman Victor Muruako condemned the law for listing 53 offences without prescribing any sanctions, calling it “a law with bark but no bite.”
OrderPaper CEO Oke Epia echoed the urgency, revealing that a reform bill sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has stalled at committee level after clearing second reading.
Both organisations urged lawmakers to act swiftly to enforce accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s petroleum governance.
